While UK farmers are among the best in the world, farming continues to have the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK; accounting for 1% of the working population but 19% of all worker fatalities (HSE 2024/2025).
23 farm workers lost their lives in the workplace in 2024/2025 and 4 members of the public according to the latest HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing report. This means that, over the past year, 27 families and farming communities have been mourning the loss of a loved one and this needs to stop.

We are the Farm Safety Foundation, an award-winning independent charity and we are dedicated to preserving and protecting the physical and mental wellbeing of the next generation of farmers.
Background
As a mutual insurer that has cared about the countryside, farmers and their families for over a century, NFU Mutual took the decision in 2014 to establish an independent charity, the Farm Safety Foundation, to help young farmers preserve and protect their physical and mental wellbeing.
We are tackling this issue all year round and through our activities, our education programme and our farm safety and mental health campaigns, we are working to raise the profile of the issues affecting an industry we care so much about and the sources of advice, help and support available to those living and working in it.
