While UK farmers are among the best in the world, farming remains one of our country’s most hazardous industries; accounting for 1% of workers but 20% of all worker fatalities (HSE).
32 farm workers lost their lives in the workplace in 2018/2019 and 7 members of the public including 2 children according to the latest HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing report. This may be less than the five year average of however the fact remains that over the past year 39 families and farming communities have been mourning the loss of a loved one and this needs to stop.

We’re the Farm Safety Foundation, an award-winning charity and we’re dedicated to preserving and protecting the physical and mental wellbeing of the next generation of farmers.
As a mutual insurer that has cared about the countryside, farmers and their families for over a century, NFU Mutual took the decision in 2014 to establish an independent charity, the Farm Safety Foundation, to help young farmers preserve and protect their physical and mental wellbeing.
We are tackling this issue all year round and through our activities, our education programme and our farm safety and mental health campaigns, we are working to raise the profile of the issues affecting an industry we care so much about and the sources of advice, help and support available to those living and working in it.
