Staying Safe on the Farm – A Guide for Young Farmers

A MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM…

Dear friends

With the challenges we face as a result of schools, colleges and universities closing, please be assured that the Farm Safety Foundation (or Yellow Wellies as you may know us) is still here to help…

One challenge we are particularly interested in is young people in rural areas spending longer periods on their farm and being called upon to help if family, friends or neighbours are older, vulnerable or have contracted coronavirus COVID-19. If this is the case, we need to ensure young farmers are aware, more than ever, about the dangers they could face whilst on farm.

First, let’s talk about the reason they are closing schools, colleges and universities. Educational establishments do not just close and send students home without a good reason. And, with the increased threat of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) our Government realises that this is no joke… and so should you!

We have prepared a few safety reminders to ensure you give yourself  the best chance of staying safe, working well and making sure you come out of this happy and safely when the time comes.

We have produced a brand new 8 page booklet Staying Safe on the Farm – A Guide for Students which I would urge you to read.

The Farm Safety Foundation is a small charity but we will continue to use press and social media channels – Facebook / Twitter / Instagram to keep the farming community updated so please follow us @yellowwelliesUK for timely reminders and tips on how to avoid harm on the farm.

We are all facing uncertain times with regards to coronavirus COVID-19 and our NHS is already struggling so let’s think about our safety and the safety of our loved ones and not risk farm incidents adding to a workforce already under pressure.

Please look after one another and if you have any queries do get in touch.

Stay safe and farm safe
